Teaching your child to ride a bike
The mental image of all 220 pounds of me sitting on our four-year-old daughter, Caroline's "Dora the Explorer" bicycle to "show her how it's done" should be enough to make anyone want to hire a professional to teach their child to ride a bike.
But I actually stumbled across a method that is supposed to make it very simple to teach your child to ride: Take the pedals off their bike and let them push it with their feet, first.
The theory is that kids can't concentrate well on learning to balance themselves, steer the bike, and operate the pedals all at the same time. But if all they have to do is balance and steer, they can learn much more quickly. It actually makes a lot of sense and it's worked for thousands of parents, including some of our friends.
This video is where I learned about this:
The problem we're facing is that the centerline of Caroline's bicycle is too tall for her to reach the ground comfortably. We may have to try to find a smaller bike for her to learn on until she's tall enough for this one.
Pray for us and I'll let you know how it goes!
